The Lady in the Water is about an angel/fairy kinda - Story, played by Bryce Dallas Howard (Ivy Walker from The Village, another Shyamalal Night’s Movie. She will also appear as Gwen Stacy in Spiderman-3) and her effort to convey an important message to Vick (M. Night Shyamalal) which will curve the way of the human kind altogether. The movie revolves around not on how she conveys the message but on how she got out safely to her land from the Human World.
The story revolves around an Apartment Building in Philadelphia where Cleveland Heep (Paul Giamatti) works as some sorta keeper for all mundane jobs, specially the swimming pool. He have even set timings that one cannot swim after 7:00 pm in the night. However, he found out that there was someone playing in the swimming pool in the dead of the night. One faithful night, he found who was in the pool. He eventually discovers that she is some sort of a fairy/angel from a bedtime story.
The movie had to evolved from an animated fable telling us about a lovely Blue World, the sea, in which people live in harmony, while people in our world, the world of the land, are constantly in conflict. We all used to be part of that Blue World, but we forgot all the lessons of beauty and love, etc. So occasionally a Blue World emissary will come, at great risk, to impart a message that will put us on the right course and change the world forever.
You might be surprised that this time, there is no twist unlike Night’s previous movies. There have been bad reviews about Lady in the Water everywhere but hey, this is not that a bad movie to watch. You can still see the genius work and imagination of M. Night, his art of story-telling capability. I just wish that he still continue to do the cameo than play major role in a movie.
