At the Miss Universe, 2007 held at Mexico City, Riyo Mori of Japan was crowned the Miss Universe. This is the second time that Japan has won the World Beauty Title. The last time Japan won the pageant was almost half a century ago in 1959 when Akiko Kojima became the first Miss Universe from Asia. Riyo is followed by Miss Brazil, Natalia Guimaraes, and Miss Venezuela, Ly Jonaitis, in the second and third place respectively.

Cheeni Kum
An awesome movie; Amitabh and Tabu were just fantastic. I laughed almost throughout the movie and I loved the flawlessly spiced dialogue between Amitabh and Tabu. Cheeni Kum is about the unadulterated but sweetened love-story of a 64 year old man (I’m pretty sure Amitabh Bachchan is at that age right now in his real life) and a 34 year old woman.

The Train “Derailed”
Well, you must have seen the similarities in the picture – the photoshot is strikingly similar – and of course, the makers of The Train forgot to change the tagline of the original Derailed movie – Some Lines Should Never be Crossed. Yeah! I know, that is another sick case of the widely known and accepted fact of plagiarism in Bollywood.

Shootout at Lokhandwala based on “True Rumors”
Shootout at Lokhandwala has a weird tagline – “Based on True Tumors”! On Friday, I went to see Shrek the Third but found out that it is not yet released in India. I settled with the Lokhandwala Shootout movie and it turned out to a good movie. The movie is based on the Shooting at the Svati Building in Lokhanwala, Andheri (west), Mumbai (INDIA) on the 16th of November, 1991.

Shrek the Third
On Saturday, I went to see Shrek the Third at a preview release. The movie was released earlier week across the world; the release in India is delayed by 2 weeks and will be released at theatres on 1st June, 2007.
Shrek’s father-in-law, King Harold the Frog is on his dying bed, and he is being looked at as the next heir to the kingdom of Far Far Away. Being uneasy at the kingdom and for the love his swamp, Shrek (Mike Myers) gather up his friends Donkey (voice of Eddie Murphy) and Puss (voice of Antonio Banderas) to get to the next heir – Artie (voice by Justin Timberlake) – to the King’s throne. While he was away, Princess Fiona (voice by Cameron Diaz) along with the fairy tales characters – Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Rapunzel – did their part to fend off the onslaught-kingdom-take-over by Prince Charming (Rupert Everett).

Pocahontas
“You think I’m an ignorant “savage” and you’ve been so many places; I guess it must be so, but still I cannot see if the savage one is me. How can there be so much that you don’t know? You don’t know.”
With the 1995 movie Pocahontas, the artists at Disney once again proved that when it comes to animation, no can hold a candle to them.

First Twin Bond-Girls; Bond 22 to have the Olsen twins
The upcoming 22nd Bond Movie is likely to have Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen as the first ever Twin Bond Girls.
Bond 22 is reportedly to be in the making with Daniel Craig continuing as James Bond. Production designer Peter Lamont have confirmed that the 22nd James Bond will be a direct continuation of the events started in Casino Royale. It may be reminded that most Bond films have been stand-alone adventures, the 22nd Bond will be a different formula to shake the traditional stir. Bond 22 is set for release on 7 November 2008.
Ella Enchanted
That fool of a fairy Lucinda did not intend to lay a curse on me. She meant to bestow a gift. When I cried inconsolably through my first hour of life, my tears were her inspiration. Shaking her head sympathetically at Mother, the fairy touched my nose. “My gift is obedience. Ella will always be obedient. Now stop crying, child.” I stopped.
The 1998 Newberry Honor Book, Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine is the engaging story of a girl named Ella of Frell, who at birth receives a fateful gift of obedience from the fairy Lucinda. Ella has to obey an order, any order, be it to hop on one foot all day, or even to chop off her own head, a fact her scheming stepmother, Dame Olga, and her dimwitted and unattractive stepsisters, Hattie and Olive, make ample use of at every opportunity.
Morning Raga
The 2004 movie “Morning Raga”, starring Shabana Azmi, Prakash Rao, Lillette Dubey and Perizaad Zorabian, explores the polemics and passions that segregate today’s generations from the Indian classical heritage in the past.
The film spans two generations of families who lived and lost. Swarnalatha, a Carnatic music singer from a South Indian village, blames herself for the death of her son and her violinist-accompanist friend Vaishnavi in a bus accident, when they were on the way to the city to fulfill Swarnalatha’s lifelong dream by participating in a music concert. Shattered by guilt and remorse, she goes into a self imposed exile never to sing again.
