From blame like - his singing is awful to it is amateurish to the Indian call centers are calling in to vote for him, Sanjaya Malakar of the American Idol fame is another controversial Indian. Some people believed that he has a lot of sex appeal and a hollywood smile. He is new and he is not-horrible. However, it is a fact that he is not that good with American Popular songs. This 17 year old gentleman was voted off recently on April 18, 2007 but his popularity on social networking sites, video are growing and gaining traffic.
Fan of popular singers like Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Lauryn Hill and Susan Tedeschi, Sanjaya had professional singing lessons and he knows Culinary Arts. He believes in Stevie Wonder as the American Idol and says that his proudest moment was when he made it to the top 24 on American Idol. You’ll be surprised to know that he can independently raise both corners of his upper lips. On being popular, he is now scared that people will recognize him as one of the top American Idol.
Baltimore Sun columnist Dan Rodricks feels that the young teens and preteens willlove Sanjaya Malakar. He even claims that he’ll sell 10 million singles and 20 million posters. He feels that Howard Stern and other radio hosts across America have been pushing Sanjaya as a joke to skew the vote and sabotage his ranking. He further adds that he is happening, and has made American Idol interesting and watch-able again. It was even nice going through the comments of his article and people seem to prefer in some way or the other.
There are even some hilarious comments on the Indian Call centers calling in for the vote –
I own 25 call centers in India, and all my staff is just sitting idle during the American Idol. It is the great Indian Idle during American Idol. So I have asked them to download the American Idol video — as it is available on Bit Torrent as soon as it is aired — there are lots of fans in India who download the show immediately, and get Sanjaya’s number and start voting for him. For every vote, I reward with a point, and with every 100 points, they get a pay grade increase. So — American Idol contestants, contact me if you want to win — I can hook you up.
There had been even a stir of racism with Anti-Asian bias being more of a problem in Britain, and became a national scandal amid charges of racism on their Celebrity Big Brother. And there’s another reason why Sanjaya’s story is reverberating through India and the Desi community around the world. His rise on Idol is drawing many comparisons to a contestant on the first season of Indian Idol.
