Beowulf would have been best in an IMAX 3D. However, India have one IMAX and that too is a DOME (located at Wadala, Mumbai) and I see now sign of Beowulf being released for the IMAX. Beowulf is being released in 3 formats - a standard two-dimensional computer animation, a 3-D theatrical print and in IMAX 3-D.
The movie is based off an old English heroic epic poem by the same name. Its creation dates between the 8th and the 11th century, the only surviving manuscript dating to circa 1010. It has risen to national epic status in England.
Listen to this audio from San Diego, US on the date of release.
This movie is a tale about the Geatland warrior Beowulf (Ray Winstone) who arrives on Danish shores to rid them of a monster known as Grendel (Crispin Glover). The initial fight scene between Beowulf and Grendel was rather funny. Beowulf strips off to fight Grendel nude and various glasses, swords, people and other objects tactically impede the audience’s view of his manhood. But hey, the whole animation was able to tell us a fantastic story - the story of Beowulf defeat of Grendel, fight with Grandel’s mother and the final Dragon fight which proved fatal for Beowulf.
Beowulf uses the motion capture technique, a process of digitally recording actors’ movements for a life-like style of computer animation. The 3-D and special effects were stunning and raucously entertaining to the best.
