Released just yesterday in India, Eragon is late to enter India by about 4 months. I wasn’t really expecting Eragon to draw that much crowd at the Multiplexes but surprised to see the hall more than half full. I wasn’t expecting the movie to be as good either - this is not Harry Potter nor Lord of the Rings.
The movie reeks of striking similarities with Lord of the Rings. We have Raazac which was like the Nazgul of LOTR, Varden fortress that of Rivendell, Durza as in Saruman and of course Brom (Jeremy Irons) and Eragon (Edward Speleers) a bit like that of Legolas, Strider/Aragorn and Gimli.
This is not to say that the movie was that bad. It has good spectacular CGI, special effects and the grown up kids will love it. The shots were scenic but not as much as LOTR. The final climax is awesome though. The air to air fight between Eragon+Saphira with Durza+the-Demonic-Dragon was the best part of the movie.
I think we should be seeing Galbatorix (John Malkovich) in the next series of the Movie as he was still preparing to fight in this movie. He remain seated in his throne all along, though the movie finally revealed a hidden dragon he had all along.
