Life in a… Metro

I caught up with this movie after almost the whole of the world watched it, never the less.

Life in a… Metro is a movie about a Metropolis like Mumbai (as the name of the movie suggests). This movie tells us a few stories that are neatly woven together. Directed by Anurag Basu and music by Pritam, the movie stars Kay Kay Menon, Shilpa Shetty, Konkana Sen Sharma, Irfan Khan, Shiney Ahuja, Sharman Joshi and Kangana Ranaut.

The multi-starrer shows the lives of several Mumbai city dwellers. The story line reads like a soap opera. Ranjeet (Kay Kay Menon) and Shikha (Shilpa Shetty) are married and have a young daughter. Shikha, gave up dreams of a career, while her husband focuses on earning a small fortune. Along the way, Ranjeet got attracted to Neha, an office colleague. Neglected Shikha finds a friend in Akash, a struggling actor.

Konkana Sen Sharma plays Shikha’s sister Shruti; she’s single at 30 and ready to be married. Her boss fixes a date with a radio personality she likes who is actually hiding a dark secret. And there’s Rahul, a young man with dreams of making it big in the city who happens to be secretly in love with his boss Neha, played by Kangana Ranaut, the smart executive who has her eyes on Ranjeet.

The movie has a real good screenplay. All the stories have been linked very beautifully (Something the director of Salaam-e-Ishq could learn from this movie). The plot that endears you is that of Konkana Sen Sharma and Irrfan Khan. Irrfan Khan is the show stealer in this movie. Shilpa Shetty has acted unexpectedly well. As for Kay Kay, he’s always good. Shiney Ahuja has also been successful in portraying his character.

The music of this movie needs a special mention. Pritam has come up with a very good score. The band comes up every place a song is inserted in the movie. However, there are just too many songs. Anurag Basu could easily do away with at least two songs.
The direction by Anurag Basu is the real highlight of the movie. The movie is definitely worth a watch.
