This movie is the third in the Munnabhai series, the earlier being Munnabhai M.B.B.S. (2003) and Lage Raho MunnaBhai (2006).
The idea to take the two characters (Munnabhai and Circuit) into the US first arose when director Raju Hirani saw Sanjay and Arshad Warsi sitting together in a golf-cart in the US. The thought of two ‘bhais’ being transported to the US took Hirani’s fancy. When Sanjay Dutt came to know about this idea, he liked it very much and asked Hirani to make a film on it. That is how ‘Munnabhai Chale Amerika’ was conceived.
