Harry Potter and The Order of the PhoenixIn the fifth film/book, Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) must defend himself and Hogwarts, from the fear-mongering restrictions of the wizarding government, and the newly-assigned Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher Dolores Umbridge. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will hit theaters nationwide on July 13th 2007. Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is part medieval, part Victorian. The characters dress in jeans and T shirts, like in 2007, but they’re surrounded by 1950s technology. They go to school by steam train. All these things from different periods are sort of slammed together.

Oscar-winning art director Stuart Craig has designed all five “Harry Potter” films, and says that one of the joys of creating a magical world is that “time is of no consequence”. He’s currently at work designing the sixth film, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” which begins shooting later this year.

Voldemort has been invading Harry’s mind, giving Harry nightmares that he is a snake, slithering through the corridors of the Ministry of Magic, and attacking Mr. Weasley, his pal Ron’s father. To help Harry defend himself from these mind games, Dumbledore orders Harry to take secret, nighttime occlumency lessons from the dreaded potions professor, Severus Snape. In this scene, set in Snape’s office, Snape tries to teach Harry that he must clear his mind of fear and anger to protect himself, but Harry’s emotions run so hot, that he reveals more to Snape than he had intended.

In this shot, taken from near the end of the film, Harry is deep inside the ministry and sees, for the first time, the long corridor of the Department of Mysteries, gleaming in black ceramic tile, which has been haunting his dreams all year. This dream will guide him and his loyal friends down this corridor, toward a room filled with glass orbs — a set which will be completely digital in the film. One of those glass orbs holds the prophecy that binds Harry to Lord Voldemort and that seals Harry’s fate. This corridor will also ultimately lead Harry toward his greatest battle, and the death of someone very close to him.
