The Covenant is released today (19th Jan, 2007) in India. Well, it’s not a good movie at all.
The movie tries to be like one of those old witchy world sipping into the Modern world. Somewhere in early 1690s, 5 families of the Ipswich Colony of Massachussets (who had fled from France, England into America) formed a covenant of silence of their supernatural powers. A family was banished for using it for the wrong means, their bloodline disappeared somehow until now where all the trouble begins. The supposedly thriller movie is about 4 young men who have been born with the special powers. The forgotten, banished family’s descendent came out and challenged them and of course hell break loose.
The story do not progress quick enough during the first half of the movie, where many story-telling was repetitive and boring despite the strong music and the beats. It tend to drag with less actions. It was though plated with few amazing special effects like the Caleb Danvers (Steven Strait) Car’s head-on collision with a Truck.
The Covenant is like a mixed blend of confusing modules – cars, girls, guys, parties, special powers – and they all fall apart from one another. The story line is unable to save any the elements of the movie. Besides Celab, the others Reid (Toby Hemingway), Tyler (Chace Crawford), and Pogue (Taylor Kitsch) pretty much have nothing to do than to join him at parties with the girls around. Sarah (Laura Ramsey) and Pogue who is dating Kate (Jessica Lucas) are the bait for Chase Collins (Sebastian Stan) to fight and take the power from Celab. Well, that’s the story.
Oh! btw, all the male characters looks almost the same, you’ll find it hard to distinguish who is who. I keep confusing one from the other all the way during the first half of the movie. You have to remember – blonde hair, long hair, one with the girl and the others.
Hmmm, not a good movie at all. If you can wait for other releases, it’d be best to skip The Covenant. I watched it as I’ve exhausted all movies running in Mumbai theaters and waiting for some good releases.
