TRAI has activated National Do Not Call directive officially from today

This may serve as a relief from those pesky telemarketers. According to the rules framed by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), you will stop getting those irritating calls 45 days after you register with the respective Telephone Operators with their Do Not Disturb (DND) registry.

What do you need to do?

Call up your respective Telephone Service Provider and ask for inclusion of your Number into the National Do not Call Registry (NDNC). Remember, this is different from the Do Not Disturb service that most Provider (supposedly) have. So, ask for the National Do Not Call Registry.

Once you register, usually within 48 hours, you will get a message from your provider stating your reference numbers for registration with teh NDNC and all promotional communication to your phone will stop within 45 days. This is FREE of cost and your provider will not charge you for this service. Alternatively, you can SMS to the respective Customer Care numbers of your provider and get registered.

What happens once you’re registered?

After the 45 day waiting period, you can report any persisting telemarketing calls to your service provider. If it’s a telemarketer registered with TRAI, it can be fined Rs. 500 a minute for the call made to you. Here is a tip: If you’re registered and telemarketers calls you, just let them talk and talk and thus extend their fine amount.

If the call was from an un-registered telemarketer, the service provider will forward its number to TRAI, which will order disconnection of the phone line used to make the spam call. India has about 5,000 such telemarketers with over 200,000 telephone connections.

I’m sorry that I’ve no direct number about IDEA but it would be a good start to begin by calling up their customer support and asking for the same.

    Hi All,

I am an Airtel usre. I subscribed for DoNotCall service. Earlier I used to get almost 4-5 telemarketting calls per day. I registered almost 6 months back. Now I get almost 1-2 calls per day.

I have complained almost 4-5 times to the service provider and they gave me a complaint number also. But I still get calls.

Do No Call Service - in our country has not come to any rescue at all.

Is there any short and quick way to avoid this harrasment

I registered my self in No disturb List of Reliance.
Right now it is more than a year. I have seen after registration number of calls increased substencially. Now most of the calls come from different divisions of Reliance itself. I complained to Relaince customer care so many times without any result. Only assurance we are looking into it.
This list is nothing but to create a list of users for making calls. Very disturbing. It is helped by GOVT. officials.
