Raj Thackeray: Founder and chief of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena.
The political unrest mushrooming up in Mumbai recently has been keeping most of Mumbaikars on their tips and toes. The episode reaches an attainable peak today when the Mumbai Police arrested the founder and chief of the Maharastra Navnirman Sena (MNS) (formed in March, 2006) — Raj Thackeray. However, this arrest was not a surprise for anybody including Raj himself and it is reported that he was prepared for the same.
The recent Issue in Mumbai
Very early this month, there were incidents in Mumbai after Raj Thackeray’s controversial remarks about the ‘migrant’ population from the North Indian States — Uttar Pradesh, Bihar. The MNS party activists clashed with the Samajwadi Party (an Uttar Pradesh party).
In the whole melee, Bollywood superstar, Amitabh Bachchan was criticized — “taking more interest in Uttar Pradesh than Maharashtra,” in spite of achieving his fame and fortune in Mumbai, Maharastra. Amitabh in retaliation stated that he would leave Mumbai if it was proved that he has not done more for Maharastra than for Uttar Pradesh.
Amitabh’s close friend and Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh said,
Let Thackeray come out with a list, what all Amitabh Bachchan has done for UP and what all he has done for Maharashtra. If he has not done much more for Maharashtra, where he is residing, then on his behalf I am saying, he will leave Mumbai.
Mumbai Police arrest Raj Thackeray
The Maharashtra Government had requisitioned paramilitary forces to meet any eventuality and security has been beefed in different parts of the city in case they are arrested. The state authorities had started deploying Central paramilitary forces from Tuesday evening in Mumbai and other key cities across the state in anticipation violence. A few companies of Rapid Action Force and four companies of Central Reserve Police Force have also been deployed in Mumbai.
There were incidents of stone pelting and assault in different parts of the state — including Nashik, Pune, Jalna, Beed, Aurangabad and Latur towns – on Tuesday in protest against the police action. MSN activists also targeted public property including state transport buses in most of the cases.
Late afternoon today, the 13th Feb, 2008, Thackeray along with Samajwadi Party leader Abu Asim Azmi was arrested by the Mumbai Police on charges of inciting people. Political Think Tanks have interpreted these developments as an attempt by Thackeray to move into the limelight, and strike at the Shiv Sena, which was trying to woo north Indian votes. He may not seek bail as his detention is likely to fuel the anti-north Indian campaign and help his party consolidate the Marathi votebank.
Earlier today, many MNS supporters and activists were arrested in Maharastra for indulging in violence and as a pre-emptive measure against an impending communal riot. Mumbai Police had lodged FIR against Thackeray on Monday at the Vikhroli Police Station.
Raj Thackeray
Raj Thackeray, born June 14, 1968, is a Maharashtra politician and the founder and chief of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena. He is the nephew of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray (son of Bal Thackeray’s younger brother Shrikant Thackeray).
Thackeray started his political career with the right wing Shiv Sena party of Maharashtra. Raj Thackeray resigned from the party in December 2005 and announced that he would form his own party. He formed the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena in March 2006.
He is a commercial arts graduate from the JJ School of Art, became an office-bearer of Shiv Sena in 1988. He formed the Bharatiya Vidyarthi Sena, Shiv Sena’s student outfit. His political career suffered a setback in 1996 when his name came up in the murder case of a tenant from Pune, Ramesh Kini. The CBI, however, cleared him of any involvement.
Well, personally, I can understand the part of the political tactics and it is their prerogative to do their political acrobatic somersault — I just wish that the common people are not made collateral in violent incidents and that peace is maintained. Isn’t it very uncivilized, in-human, down-right immature and savage to resort to communal fights in the 21st Century modern world. It is also surprising tha a city like Mumbai still don’t have a proper and tactical response mechanism to thwart-off such jungle-culture incidents.

Dear Sir,
I am a marathi person and I feel very proud to be a Maharashtrian.I would like to be member of MNS.The Views put by MNS - Shri Raj Thakre Saheb is really true. But I would like to focus your attention on one incident which may not be important for you, even then !! I am presently living in Pune (Atulnagar,Warje). I want to share my thought on the incident which occured at Atulnagar,Warje,Pune on 16 September 2007.
The Maharashtrian people as a whole don’t have the unity within themselves. They too are divided on basis of ‘REGION’.
As I living in Pune at present, I have observed that the person who belongs to Vidarbha don’t get good treatment at all.
For example, there occured an incident in Atulnagar itself in September 2007. A family(maratha) was being tortured at extreme heights by some people living there itself & were forcing them to leave their own flat for some reasons.This family was suffering some serious domestic problems. That family fighted strongly with those people. They have the political background too but didn’t misuse their powers.Those people brought the Police to their home with a big mob. They entered their home like sray passers and forced them to go to police station without WARRANT. Their they were being pressurised & threatened to accept the charges what they haven’t done at all.
The Police hasn’t performed their duty at all. They too were punishing the ‘INNOCENTS’ without knowing the fact.The police threatened them to put them behind bars without warrant.(This is the case of Warje Malwadi Police Station). The people who tortured that family mostly belong to NCP party. Those people had the feeling that as they are the ‘Karyakartas’ & relatives of some famous people in NCP , they have the right of doing anything which they feel is right. Infact tis can be called as ‘GOONDAGARDI’.
Then that family too had to give their Political introduction. Then those people took a step back when they come to know about them. And then at last the two families were made to compromise, who were actually having the conflict .These two family belongs to the same place and are relatives too. They are from Amravati. This family could have helped that family but instead ,they added more problems to their existing problems, may be intentionally.They started spreading wrong information among others about that family and made others to believe them so that they should stand with them and this happened too.Rest of the people interferred unneccessarily.The respected ‘Gentlemen’ residing in Atulnagar too kept on threatening that family(ladies especially).That family directly talked to some of them & made them realise that this act is offencable An year has lapsed when this incident occured. Even today that family is kept isolated.
The people who were involved in this matter don’t let allow others or new people to keep relation with that family. Their son who may be only 2 to3 yrs old is not being allowed to play with the other children. One of the lady(RESIDING IN A1 BLDG) who stays there itself don’t allow her child as well as children of other people too, to play with that innocent child. When he goes to play with other children, they scold or beat their children so that they should not play with him.Some people have tried to tarnish the image of that family & even today the undercurrents can be sensed !!
I suppose this is very pitiful condition because all these people are marathi. But alas ! they don’t have unity at all because everyone feels that they are very influential & strong and take all the rules & laws in their hands & can misuse as the want. They can do whatever they want. Nonmarathi people only enjoy viewing such incidents and the marathi people here in Atulngar Phase I enjoy in creating such scenes.
Here I would like to tell in one thing particularly that A SECTION OF MARATHI PEOPLE ARE THEMSELVES CORRUPT AND MISUSE THE POWERS THEY HAVE.
(THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED IN A1 BLDG, ATULNAGAR, NEAR POPULAR NAGAR,WARJE, PUNE-52).
This is only one example, such examples may be many!!!
SO, UNITY AMONG OURSELVES IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING.
SUCH INCIDENTS TOO HAMPER THE INTERESTS OF OUR STATE WHERE WE LIVE IN.
I hope that, the family about whom I described will get justice and MNS can do it. I personally feel that MNS should take the step against the harassments done on that family and also the women of India.
(I can’t reveal my identity due to my security reasons, but you can check whether this incident happened or not?)

1. We should teach our kids that if he is second in class, don’t study harder.. just beat up the student coming first and throw him out of the school
2. Parliament should have only Delhiites as it is located in Delhi
3. Prime-minister, president and all other leaders should only be from Delhi
4. No Hindi movie should be made in Bombay. Only Marathi.
5. At every state border, buses, trains, flights should be stopped and staff changed to local men
6. All Maharashtrians working abroad or in other states should be sent back as they are SNATCHING
Employment from Locals
7. Lord Shiv, Ganesha and Parvati should not be worshiped in our state as they belong to north (Himalayas)
8. Visits to Taj Mahal should be restricted to people from UP only
9. Relief for farmers in Maharashtra should not come from centre because that is the money collected as Tax from whole of India, so why should it be given to someone in Maharashtra?
10. Lets support Kashmiri Militants because they are right to killing and injuring innocent people for benifit of there state and community……
11. Let’s throw all MNCs out of Maharashtra, why should they earn from us? We will open our own Maharashtra Microsoft, MH Pepsi and MH Marutis of the world .
12. Let’s stop using cellphones, emails, TV, foreign Movies and dramas. James Bond should speak Marathi
13. We should be ready to die hungry or buy food at 10 times higher price but should not accept imports from other states
14. We should not allow any industry to be setup in Maharashtra because all machinery comes from outside
15. We should STOP using local trains… Trains are not manufactured by Marathi manoos and Railway Minister is a Bihari
16. Ensure that all our children are born, grow, live and die without ever stepping out of Maharashtra, then they will become true Marathi’s
