When the going gets tough, the tough gets going

BharatnatyamI was coming back from my dance rehearsals when a good friend called to tell me about when our M.A.(psychology) exams were slated. To my horror, these dates clashed with my M.F.A.(masters in Bharatanatyam). The probability that the dates would clash was too little and insignificant. For a while I didn’t know how to react to this news. My friend did know that I would be shocked.

There was so much I had to do. For the masters in dance, I had to make 4 journals, 3 projects and 2 assignments. Whoever thought dance would involve so much paper work! These volumes of work were taking up all my study time. I was getting nervous by the day.

Life in a… Metro

I caught up with this movie after almost the whole of the world watched it, never the less.

Life in a… Metro is a movie about a Metropolis like Mumbai (as the name of the movie suggests). This movie tells us a few stories that are neatly woven together. Directed by Anurag Basu and music by Pritam, the movie stars Kay Kay Menon, Shilpa Shetty, Konkana Sen Sharma, Irfan Khan, Shiney Ahuja, Sharman Joshi and Kangana Ranaut.

Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon

The English version of the above Hindi Phrase reads “I want to become Madhuri Dixit.”

I must admit that I have always been a very big fan of Madhuri right from days immemorial. So to watch her again some time soon is really exciting. I watched her on Koffee with Karan this Sunday. She looked stunning! I mean after all she is a mother of two boys; and yet she looked gorgeous on the show. Agreed that she doesn’t look like she did in her films in the 90′s but what the heck! She still has those mesmerizing eyes and the 22-carat smile that can illuminate any dull moment.

What’s the Hurry?

Busy TrafficWe are all whizzing through life, with our foot firmly pressed on the accelerator. Zooming from one milestone to another, life for most of us just resembles distant scenery that we occasionally glimpse in the rear-view mirror. With our eyes clearly trained towards the road ahead, we hurry on. And on. And on. And on. Without the faintest clue as to where we are going, as we are in such a hurry that we don’t even read the signboards that probably read : stop and smell the roses.

Dance – A way of Life

Bharat NatyamNever really occurred to me that dance could be my occupation. I always enjoyed it. It was my hobby for years. But I never took it seriously. This year I have realised that its a very inseparable part of my life.

I am doing a regular masters in Bharat Natyam. At the onset I wasn’t willing to take it up. I just wanted to learn something new. But at my Guruji’s insistence I enrolled for this course. Life became unexpectdly hectic. I had morning lessons followed by another class in psychology and then again dance rehearsals. To be honest I’m enjoying this. The adreline rush, the spirit of dance, the momentum.

Dreams Demystfied

DreamsDreams have been a mystery to us since Adam first breathed life. The stuff of legends, myth and fairy tale, dreams have always fascinated mankind. If you too have wondered about what dreams are all about, read on …

Dreams are a communication of body, mind and spirit in a symbolic communicative environmental state of being. Your brain mind and spirit, while at rest “review” and analyze in it’s own way long term, short term and spirit memory. It kicks around emotions, thoughts, ideas, actions and interactions of the short term memory. It has in it’s background the trends of your life and philosophy to influence it. Your mind is also processing spiritual data, your beliefs, whether or not you violated them, your information gained through psychic intuition (we ALL have this to a certain degree) and of course, any communication from God.

Finally its over, err, The Abhiash wedding!

Abhishek was set to marry Aishwarya on the 20th of this month. Media speculations had begun well in advance. However as the d-day drew closer, the media just lost it. I wanted to write about this last week itself, but the whole episode just made me sooooo nauseated. I mean, its not like someones getting married for the first time on this planet. The media just overdid the whole thing. Whats the big deal about a celeb getting married?

Apart from the media there was some girl claming to have married Abhishek. For lord’s sake when will these cheepos stop vying for publicity. It was a damn cheap publicity stunt.

Nishabd

NishabdI was intrigued by the promos of this particular movie. It looked appealing. Not that the subject has never been made into a movie, but… this time it was Amitabh in there. You dont need to be a rocket surgeon to know that such a movie would not have done very well in India. What concerns me more than the movie is that it flopped so bad at the box office. Most people I know who’ve seen the movie couldn’t sit through it. Not because it was a bad movie, but because they just couldnt accept the fact that a 60 year old Amitabh was infatuated about an 18 year old Jia Khan.

According to Freud, it is very natural for a girl to be attracted to her own father. This is because she grows up to believe that he is the best man alive. So any man who becomes this father figure in your life can become attractive to you. Or even if that person has not done anything but if you believe that the person has father figure qualities you are naturally attracted to him.

Black Friday

The movie Black Friday is based on the book “Black Friday” written by Hussain Zaidi. The book is a pithy report of the plot and police inquiry of the serial bomb blasts that shook Mumbai on the 12th March 1993. Kashyap (The director) has remained honest to the book. His movie is almost a visual extension of the Zaidi’s work. The movie employs a chapterwise, loaded narrative. The movie resembles a documentary in terms of its taking.

The story has now been proven as true in the court of law. So I guess its not challengable anymore. The key characters were Tiger Memon (Malhotra) is the mastermind behind the blasts. He picks up some boys from mumbai who were instigated in the name of Jehad. They are trained in some place by Pakistani army men and then brought back to Mumbai to execute the bomb blasts. Rakesh Maria (Kay Kay Menon) was the officer incharge. Asusual a brilliant performance. And Badshah khan (Shrivastav, brilliantly shaky) was the aide who gave in ultimately and helped police solve the case.
