Jamal Malik, a penniless eighteen year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, is one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India’s “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?”

But when the show breaks for the night, suddenly, he is arrested on suspicion of cheating. After all, how could an uneducated street kid possibly know so much? Determined to get to the bottom of Jamal’s story, the jaded Police Inspector spends the night probing Jamal’s incredible past, from his riveting tales of the slums where he and his brother Salim survived by their wits to his hair-raising encounters with local gangs to his heartbreak over Latika, the unforgettable girl he loved and lost.

Each chapter of Jamal’s increasingly layered story reveals where he learned the answers to the show’s seemingly impossible quizzes. But one question remains a mystery: what is this young man with no apparent desire for riches really doing on the game show? When the new day dawns and Jamal returns to answer the final question, the Inspector and sixty million viewers are about to find out …

Nana Patekar and newcomers Venkatesh Chavan and Jhangir Badshah star in this film about a young man trying to make a living in the wealthy hills of Panjim, Goa in India. Daydreaming about one day getting an education, Venkatesh works as a “room boy” in a hotel and sells plastic bags on the side with his young friend, Jhangir, to make ends meet. When he becomes enchanted by a sublime residential pool, Vankatesh gets entangled with the mysterious family that inhabits the home. His relationship with the rich father and his cynical, sophisticated daughter disrupt his fixed ideas and unexpectedly alters his destiny.

Shilpa Shetty

Recently an official announcement was made about the confirmation of Shilpa Shetty being the host of Big Boss 2. The show would be aired on the new channel COLOURS and would start from the 17th of August.

The officilas were adamant that they wanted Shilpa to host the show considering they could cash in huge amounts because of her presence.This will be the first appearance on the small screen for Shilpa as a host, though she has been in the reality show, Jhalak Dikhlaja as the judge.

It is being heard that the leggy lass has been given hired for a mind boggling Rs. 8 crore deal for the show, which is way much more as compared to Arshad Warsi, who hosted the first season on Sony Television.

Shilpa’s journey to the sudden popularity at the Big Brother in UK was aired on the televisions. She explains that as she has been through all this herself, she would easily relate to the housemates and hence prove to be a good host, at least that’s what she hopes. The show, this time over promises much more to the captivity in a house which would include a lot off features like general common people on the show and a handsome prize money of Rs 7.5 million. Some of the sources have secretively leaked out the list of a few members who are slated to be a part of the show which includes singer Mika and item girl Sherlyn Chopra amongst 12 others.

Raj, being played by Ranbir is a casanova since his teenage where he first meets love in Mahi, played by Minnisha Lamba, who is a small town girl. She easily falls for him, considering him to be her soulmate but soon realizes that he is no more with her. Then comes the sexy and sultry Bipasha playing the character of Radhika. Despite her being much more experienced and elder, she too falls for the charming Raj, and faces the same situation at the end. The third one, Deepika, is an NRI, who gets to know about Raj’s nature and tries to teach him a lesson…. but oops…. nobody can escape his charisma.

It is being said that it is Minissha who gets the lover boy in the end…though the information is not confirmed…We hope girlfriend Deepika isn’t in fumes on hearing this. Go check it out.

He is roped in by the ace director Prakash Jha, for his next, titled Rajniti, which is a blend of the contemporary Indian politics scenario and some units of the Mahabharata, wherein the hunky, boy next door is all set to portray the character of Arjun with elements of the late Mr. Rajiv Gandhi. The film is a unique concept offering an amalgam of two different genres — the politics and the religious side.

The movie also stars Ajay Devgan and the most interesting character allotment has been in the favor of Nana Patekar, who had portrayed an amazing corrupt politician in the recent Apaharan. He will be seen playing the role of Aaj ka Krishna. The director has also cast Vivek Oberoi and Manoj Bajpai, who is all excited to work with these young people he has never worked with before. The last time Nana and Mr. Jha were seen together was for a campaign by the NDTV.

Though, it is a distinct topic, this is not for the first time that someone would try out an amalgamation of mythology with the present situation or issues. The thirty year old Shyam Benegal directed movie Kalyug had something similar. This is sure going to be one of the most awaited flicks.

Today, while strolling for an evening walk, I stop by the Costa Coffee inside Mega Mall (Andheri West, Bombay) to have a Latte. Saw Shefali Zariwala and singer Sunidhi Chauhan having coffee besides me, so decided to take a shot of them.

Well, it is considered rather un-cool to approach celebrities here in Bombay as they are scattered everywhere (unless of course they are some of the A-list celebrities). So, I’d approach for shots only when the celebrities are sitting next to me, waiting for a movie together or rather in a not-so-crowded place.

Of course, you have to leave your brains at home and don’t try to grow inside the theatre. No plot, no story per se, it is a plain setup but extremely enjoyable to watch and was a laughter riot.

The movie is about Dr. Ghunghroo (Paresh Rawal) looking for a suitable bride for his nephew Rajiv (Akshay Kumar). The only criteria which turn-out to be an extremely difficult one for Ghunghroo was that the Bride’s family should have no illegal connections, conventional, and virtually no criminal records of any sorts.

At that juncture, Uday Shetty (Nana Patekar), a notorious Gang leader aka “Uday Don” was looking for a Groom for his sister, Sanjana (Katrina Kaif). And his wish was to get her married to a respectable family unlike him and his criminal relations.

Well, in the melee, Rajiv met Sanjana and they fell in love with each other in the typical Bollywood girl-boy romance masala formula complete with dance and song sequences.

BUT why do we need the story for a movie that just flows with funny moments, can tickle your funny bones and make you laugh all along. The only negative thing about the movie was that it over-does their jokes, acts a bit that tends to make you feel that it could have been shorter. The second half of the movie brings in Feroz Khan as the “Godfather” aka Sikander aka “RDS” of the two Dons - Uday Shetty (Nana Patekar) and Majnu (Anil Kapoor).

The songs reeks of the typical Himesh Reshammiya-ic flavor. Did I forgot to tell you that there is song-dance sequence of the sizzling, sexy and scanty clothed Malaika Arora Khan. And yes, there is the bombshell Mallika Sherawat too though she didn’t get much chance to show off her assets.

The locales of Dubai and South Africa give the film a grandiose look. The effects were of course amateurish at best (sorry Prime Focus) and were done more to show off than necessity. The climax scene of the House hanging on the clip was so prominently and glaringly childish. The erased and pasted portions of the scenes were seen and its blurred separation from the surrounding gave away.

Whatever … the movie was fund to watch and is worth the time spent.

It is learnt that Shah Rukh Khan agreed to devote just 8 hours for the whole shoot. In order to maximize the usage of the 8 hours, simultaneous sets were erected in the same studio at Mumbai.

The script required 7 sets to be built. If you see the ad, there’s a different set of almost all major scenes (living room, the baby room, railway station, Hotel promenade, Red carpet premiere, Discotheque and the Balcony with the city skyline view). Apparently many production houses refused to take up this shooting contract because they felt 8 hours was too short a time to shoot the entire ad. Pradeep Sarkar was one of the few ones to take up the challenge and that’s how he got to make it.

The team started with the sets since mid-November and the actual ad was shot last week. The shoot started at 3:00 pm and closed around 11:00 pm in the night. SRK was having a temperature and wasn’t keeping too well but you never get to see that on the ad.

SRK has been a Nokia phone user for the last 10 years (his current phone is a Nokia E90) and that was the one of the major reasons why he agreed to do the ad, besides, of course the endorsement fee.

She is the second wife of Harivansh Rai Bachchan, a renouned actor as well as a singer. Harivansh Rai passed away back in the year 2003 at the age of 96. My condolences to the Bachchan family.

As usual, the roads around both of Amitabh’s home at Juhu was packed and jammed since afternoon. It took me quite a bit of time to go pass that road!
