Mo Folchart (Fraiser) drags his daughter Meggie (Bennet) all around the world completing his skilled work as a ‘Book Doctor’, otherwise known as a bookbinder. At their most recent home, an old enigmatic acquaintance of Mo’s, named Dustfinger (Bettany), shows up and, in a very rare moment in their relationship, Mo talks to Dustfinger in private. All of a sudden, the next morning, Mo packs up and leaves with Meggie without telling her what is going on, a very strange thing in their relationship. They travel to Meggie’s Great Aunt Eleanor’s (Mirren) house to stay and Meggie finds herself, once again, surrounded by books (Eleanor is rich, and collects rare books. She calls them her children, and she has thousands of books in her library).

Then, one night, a bunch of thugs arrive at the house and kidnap Mo to take him to see Capricorn (Serkis), a cruel and evil dictator.

Meggie soon finds out that Mo has the ability to read characters out of books. The only drawback is that when he brings something out of a story, something must go back in to replace it. this is how Meggie lost her mother, Theresa (Guillory), when she replaced Capricorn and Dustfinger, characters from the book: Inkheart.

Determined to get Mo back, Meggie sets out with Eleanor to Capricorn’s village; however, within a short time of arriving there, both women are also abducted and locked up with Mo. Dustfinger soon comes to the rescue and smuggles them out with a boy, named Farid (Gavron), who came out of ‘Arabian Nights’.

Now, the group of them must find a way to get another copy of Inkheart to send Capricorn and his thieves back into it’s pages and return Dustfinger to the home he misses so much.

Benazir BhuttoBenazir Bhutto, a Pakistani politician, was the first woman elected to lead the country

Though initially reported being safe and unhurt, Benazir Bhutto was later confirmed dead when her husband told television reporters that his wife was “badly injured”. News reports says that the assassination took place when a gunman fired while a suicide bomber detonated as Bhutto was leaving the venue for the political party she - the Pakistan People’s Party - that took place today (27th Dec, 2007) at Rawalpindi. The suicide attack killed around 20 others, and witnesses said that bodies were scattered across Liaqat Bagh park where the rally had taken place. Some of the dead are thought to have been police officers.

On hearing the reports of the attack and the eventual death, supporters broke hospital’s glass doors, threw stones at cars, and reportedly chanted against Musharraf outside the hospital. Others attacked police, burned election campaign posters and tires. Some opposition groups said that the assassination could lead to civil war, and other commentators said that the upcoming elections will likely be postponed.

Demonstrations are widespread in Pakistan with the police using tear gas and batons to break angry demonstrators in Peshawar. Some protesters torched the billboards of Pervez Musharraf, firing in the air and screaming. Protests in Multan also had protesters burning tires and blocking traffic. Similar scenes were witnessed in Karachi, Bhutto’s hometown.

Earlier there were few assassination attempts on her life. En route to a rally in Karachi on 18 Oct 2007, two explosions occurred shortly after Bhutto had landed and left Jinnah International Airport. She was not injured but the explosions, later found to be a suicide-bomb attack, killed 136 people and injured at least 450. The dead included at least 50 of the security guards from her Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) who had formed a human chain around her truck to keep potential bombers away, as well as 6 police officers. A number of senior officials were injured. Bhutto was escorted unharmed from the scene.

Benazir Bhutto, born on 21st June 1953, was the first woman elected to lead a Muslim state - Pakistan. She was elected twice as Prime Minister of Pakistan. She was sworn in for the first time in 1988 but removed from office 20 months later under orders of then-president Ghulam Ishaq Khan on grounds of alleged corruption. In 1993 Bhutto was re-elected but was again removed in 1996 on similar charges, this time by President Farooq Leghari.

Her father, former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, was hanged in 1979 by Pakistan’s then dictator, Gen. Mohammed Zia ul-Haq. Two of her brothers were assassinated.

Bhutto went into self-imposed exile in Dubai in 1998, where she remained until she returned to Pakistan on October 18, 2007, after reaching an understanding with General Musharraf by which she was granted amnesty and all corruption charges were withdrawn.

An Al-Qaeda leader based in Afghanistan has claimed responsibility for the assassination of former Pakistan Premier Benazir Bhutto, whom he described as “the most precious American asset”. “We terminated the most precious American asset which vowed to defeat (the) ‘mujahadeen’,” Al-Qaeda Commander and spokesman Mustafa Abu Al-Yazid told the Italian news agency Adnkronos International (AKI) in a phone call from an unknown location.

Al-Yazid was described by AKI as the “main al-Qaeda commander in Afghanistan”. It reported that the decision to kill Bhutto was made by al-Qaeda No. Two, Ayman al-Zawahiri in October.

Some of his other movies that I liked are - The Departed, Four Brothers, Perfect Storm and of course the Planet of the Apes. Mark plays Bob Lee Swagger, a tough retired Marine Sniper who have retired into the woods after an incident. This is a movie of guns, lots of head-shots and not-a-new plot. The story of the movie have been done over and over again in Hollywood or any other movie industry - alright, remember the 1997 flick Most Wanted.

Swagger know how to hit his target from over 2 miles out and knows how to judge the wind condition, and ballistic coefficients of the bullet. He know if to shoot a little higher in stationary target or ahead in a moving target when firing from a long distance. He know if the bullet will take 5 seconds or 7 when fired from a distance. Swagger knows his job.

Shooters are patient people, they wait hours and hours before their target shows up. And when the final hour comes after adjusting the levels, gears, screws and the scope, they enter a time freeze which is commonly known as the (if I can recollect that properly) Cold Zero in the sniper’s term. That is the moment between all the waiting and just before they squeeze the trigger.

The movies starts off with Swagger and his spotter, Donnie Fenn deep inside an enemy’s location at Ethiopia stationed on a hilltop to fend off their approaching army against some rebellion. Under extreme hostile condition and an un-determined chopper attack Swagger and Donnie were left on their own as “they are smart enough to go that deep, they will figure out a way to come out”. Donnie dies with multiple bullet wounds from the chopper gun, Swagger somehow felt that it is his fault that he took Donnie to the sniper academy and is the reason for his death. He exiled himself into the woods with a dog, who knows how to open the fridge and deliver a beer bottle.

However, Swagger is reluctantly coaxed by Colonel Isaac Johnson (Danny Glover) to help them foil a plot to assassinate the President. Johnson explains that there has been attempt on the President’s life during a tour of 3 cities and will be done by a sniper shooting from miles away. As Swagger is one of a best shot, Johnson ask him to think like the sniper and plan a plot to kill the President. The government agency wants him to act as a Spotter and help them nab the sniper before he can take out the president.

However, Swagger was betrayed and he runs away. The movie tends to drag a bit with doctoring the wounds, the saline preparation details, the list of items to buy - are they really needed to be that detailed there! He somehow got 2 person on his side - Sarah Fenn (Kate Mara) the widow of his late friend-spotter and a rather intelligent but not field-type-guy, Nick Memphis (Michael Pena). With them, they somehow got to the root of the conspiracy theory that went to the top of the government power.

So, if you want to enjoy the movie, forget the story - it was done over and over again. As for the actions, the scope, the kills - I kinda like it specially the white snow scene where Swagger have to race against time to shoot the other snipers. Btw, what the hell was that subtitle for, it covers the lower half of the movie. We don’t need that in the hall, we will buy DVD for it if we need it.

Yesterday was about honor. Today is about justice.
