My wife have been doing a bit of digging and here are her advise, suggestions to avoid some avoidable mistakes, and to steer clear of loses as much as possible.

More often than not, the sole reason for many people to enter the market is that they know someone, perhaps a neighbour or friend, who made pots of gold from the stock market. If he can, is the attitude. But it doesn’t work that way in the market. If you don’t understand stocks, don’t fall prey to the temptation.

Trying to time the market
Timing is a slang term used by traders to describe the process of buying a stock at a lower price, and selling it at the peak price. As many people would claim, this is the best way to make money. Alas, if only it was that easy! As the saying goes, if wishes were horses, beggars would ride. Getting into the stock market with the idea of timing it is like inviting death. You may hear inspiring legends about people who have done it repeatedly. But when you haven’t heard is the stories about the people who lost the game.

Not hot tips please
Many people believe that others know better than they do, when it comes to picking a winner. They blindly go by the words of friends, colleagues, or even fellow commuters on the train. This, again is a sure shot way to lose money. Always remember that by the time you get a tip, most traders have used that information to make money.

No lumpsum Investment
The market is in all-time high, and it would be a bad idea to break your fixed deposits and head for the market. Sure, you can do that provided you are ready to wait in the next five to ten years. Otherwise, invest regularly, or select shares on dips.

Don’t chase obscure stocks
Punters would tell you the best and easiest way to make money from the market is to spot the obscure stock that nobody has noticed. Where else would you get a 2,000% return, they ask. Again, keep in mind that it is not such an easy task. If there is steep correction in the market, these obscure stocks would be hit hard. So, resist the temptation.

So, these are few notes about investing in the stock market rendering the prospects of a bright financial future if enough care is taken before and during your stock-venture.
