Microsoft Clippy dead – 1997-2007

ClippyMicrosoft have finally decided to do away with the Clippy with new Microsoft Office 2007. Most users of Microsoft Office were not happy with clippy and nobody loved him. Born in 1997, Clippy will be rested in 2007. Office’s Group Program Manager, Jensen Harris, said “He’s sort of fallen out of disfavor, so this is probably his last gasp.”

AppScout sat down with Jensen Harris, in order to say goodbye to Clippy, one last time.

Mingle Now or in a Box

I liked the idea of “MingleBox (MingleBox)”:http://www.minglebox.com/ when they showed their demo at “Barcamp Bangalore 2 (Barcamp Bangalore 2)”:http://www.brajeshwar.com/archives/2006/12/barcamp-bangalore-2006-december/ and have been thinking that it is fine to be have yet another (and another) Social Networking site. The internet is huge and everybody should have their share. Today, I saw an article by “Liz Cannes (Liz Cannes)”:http://gigaom.com/author/liz-gannes/ at GigaOm – “MingleNow and Its Many, Many Competitors (MingleNow and Its Many, Many Competitors)”:http://gigaom.com/2006/12/12/minglenow-and-its-many-many-competitors/.

“MingleNow (MingleNow)”:http://minglenow.com/, a web platform for planning social outings, is formally launching Tuesday. The site, made by marketing company Blue Lithium, has been open for a while. Liz wonders how the product will possibly cut through the clutter.

Well, let’s watch what our Indian counterpart can do. Sometimes, it happens that similar ideas strikes many people around the world and I hope that “MingleBox (MingleBox)”:http://www.minglebox.com/ is just another similar idea that strikes our Bangalore startup and not a plagiarized version of “MingleNow (MingleNow)”:http://minglenow.com/.

What is a Sitemap Protocol and why should you care?

Recently, “Google (Google)”:http://www.google.com/ announced their collaboration with “Yahoo (Yahoo)”:http://www.yahoo.com/ and “Microsoft (Microsoft)”:http://www.microsoft.com/ to support the Sitemap Protocol. As part of this development, they are moving the protocol to a new namespace, “Sitemap.org (Sitemap.org)”:http://www.sitemaps.org/. The sponsoring companies will continue to collaborate on the protocol and publish enhancements on the jointly-maintained “site (Sitemap)”:http://www.sitemaps.org/.

If you’ve already submitted a Sitemap to Google using the previous namespace and version number, Google will continue to accept it. If you haven’t submitted a Sitemap before, check out the documentation on Sitemaps.org for information on creating one. Get yourself familier with the “Sitemap Protocol (Sitemap Protocol)”:http://www.sitemaps.org/protocol.html. You can submit your Sitemap file to Google using Google webmaster tools. See the documentation that Yahoo! and Microsoft provide for information about submitting to them.

Digg Friends – Which one should you befriend

These are the few guides that I follow while making new friends on Digg —

* Of course, revert back the friendship if anybody adds you as a friend – Look for those who “Befriended (Befriended Page)”:http://digg.com/users/Brajeshwar/friends/befriended you.
* Introduce or Invite new Friends.
* Diggers who digg your stories.
* Heavy Digger – you can always view the “Profile of a Digger (Brajeshwar’s Digg Profile)”:http://digg.com/users/Brajeshwar/submitted and look for his/her joining date and how much does s/he diggs. Go for the heavy diggers.
* The Good Story Submitters – well the next is to look for people who digg and submit good stories.

How to schedule article post in WordPress?

It is extremely easy to schedule article post for your future postings. While you write/edit your article in your “wordpress (WordPress)”:http://www.wordpress.org/ blog, make sure that you edit/set the *TimeStamp* to the date in future which you want to schedule your article. Do not forget to *PUBLISH* your article (not *SAVE*). That’s all and your articles are scheduled for future postings. For instance if you want your article to be posted on Christmass, then set the *TimeStamp* to 25 December 2006 (for this year) and set your minute and second to your desired time.

*Note* – Keep in mind that the *Edit TimeStamp* should be checked/selected while editing an article. Just changing the date/time do not affect the *TimeStamp* unless you select that option.

IMAX Experience – New Enriched Site Design

The only cool Cinema Theatre Website that is well designed is that of “Adlabs Multiplex (Adlabs Multiplex)”:http://www.adlabsmultiplex.com/. Flash, HTML and Ajax have been used appropriately at the right place. This is the type of Website Design that I’m talking about and that the Public facing interface of Indian Institutes should start looking into. A user is definitely not happy when crappy, cheesy design faced them when they tried to book a ticket for a movie. Sometimes, non-working scripts are a total put-offs.

Visit “Adlabs Multiplex (Adlabs Multiplex)”:http://www.adlabsmultiplex.com/
The site is designed by “Influx DZine (Influx DZine)”:http://www.influx.co.in/

FlickrLeech

“FlickrLeech (FlickrLeech)”:http://www.flickrleech.net/ is a Flickr based free service that allows you to find interesting photos for any given day. I really like this feature and make it a point to visit it everyday and see all the *interestingness* for that day. Besides that, it can leech by username, useer id, favorites, photosets and group pool.

FlickrStorm

I got to “FlickrStorm (FlickrStorm)”:http://www.zoo-m.com/flickr-storm/ through “TechCrunch (TechCrunch)”:http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/08/11/flickrstorm-better-search-for-flickr-including-creative-commons/. FlickrStorm is another service build around Flickr, it helps you do smart things for the batches of Photos you find on Flickr. It suggests related search terms with your results making it up for the fact that users don’t really tag their images with the same terms a searcher might hope for all the time. It allows you to set multiple photos from search results into a tray and save them as a batch.

Merge Windows in Firefox

I am not sure if this was in the pre “Firefox 2 (Firefox 2)”:http://tech.cybernetnews.com/2006/07/08/firefox-20-beta-1-candidate-now-available/ era, but I just found that I can merge two Firefox windows by doing a Ctrl+Shift+M (Should be Option+Shift+M on the Mac). If this is a new feature in Firefox 2, this is a cool one. I looked around but could not find any commands or menu listed for the same!
